Last year I decided I wanted to sketch more in 'real-time' outdoors. My habit has been to rarely do this. I typically like to sketch or do any artwork in the privacy of my studio with no distractions. However I decided to "push myself" and take time when we were out as a family or when I was alone going to a beach or park. The majority of these sketches were done in about 20-40 minutes, often with a toddler running around in the background and my husband watching her. "Windward Skies II"- A Dreamy Drive on O'ahu's Eastern Shore

"Windward Skies II" is a dreamy view of the landscape in Ka'a'awa Beach on the eastern side of the island of O'ahu. It was inspired by my countless trips driving to the north shore and feeling awed by the incredible scenery along the way. My favorite stretch of highway runs through this area where it feels so wild, untamed and free. Happy New Year! Although we are well into January the Hawaiian weather has been holding strong this year making everything look sunny and bright. Although some of the summer flowers such as plumeria are not currently in bloom, the island is lush with ginger, hibiscus and much more. Since I am constantly inspired by admiring the local nature, one of my favorite things to paint are what I call floral "medleys".
