Do you ever find yourself having a “Hawaii moment”? Maybe you are out in nature, sitting on the edge of the ocean watching the endless sea fade into the horizon. The light is slowly fading closer to sunset and the energy in the atmosphere is becoming noticeably calm. You take a sip of your cool drink and watch the shimmering leaves on each palm frond dance in front of billowing white clouds. A sense of peace and happiness comes over you, along with a deep appreciation for where you are.

Rugged Beauty + Idyllic Peace
While making this painting I wanted to create more than just a depiction of scenery, but the feeling of a moment captured in time. The location I chose as the subject matter is known as “Shark’s Cove” or by the Hawaiian name, “Pupukea” (white shell). It is located on the north shore of the island of O’ahu in Hawaii. I find the landscape of the north shore to have a certain rugged beauty and sense of wild, untamed freedom. In my painting, the calm tide pool lagoon and bright tropical florals depicts a feeling of idyllic peace, while the swirling sky I hope alludes to a sense of mystery and fascination. It is my wish for the viewer to feel joy while experiencing my interpretation of this “Hawaii moment”.
Although the original painting is sold, if you are interested in prints of this piece, check out my link below!
