Hibiscus Flower Surfboard “decal”

Acrylic hibiscus posca surf surf art surfart surfboard surfing

Just sharing a little decoration and logo cover I did recently. I sanded a small area of the board with fine sand paper and then sketched out a hibiscus in pencil. My plan was to use all Posca pens but many of my larger ones had dried up and I needed more white to cover the the round logo area. My pens were just not cooperating with me today so I busted out my regular acrylic paints and brushes to fill in layers of pink and fuchsia. Once those were dried I did my favorite part- outlining in black Posca pens which really gives it that graphic look. The whole painting process probably took three or four hours even though it was a pretty small area. Painting on a board is wayyy trickier than a canvas (especially with a little gremlin, I mean helper ;). The final step is absolutely crucial if you ever want to surf the board and that is spray with many coats of UV resistant acrylic clear coat. Well that was fun-ish...I think I got my yearly need to paint a board out of my system. Now back to my regular canvases! Talk to you later,

Aloha,

Colleen
